Truckful Truck Upgrades Guide

Every Truckful truck upgrade type the developer has confirmed, from cargo capacity and sticky cargo to the snorkel and boosters, and how upgrades open the map.

Quick answer

MythicOwl confirms six upgrade types: cargo capacity, handling, paint, boosters, sticky cargo and a snorkel. You can buy them in any order, and new routes in the semi-open world unlock as you upgrade. Red's Scrapyard turns scrap into upgrade materials.

Upgrades are how Truckful’s map opens up. The developer calls the world semi-open, meaning routes unlock as you get upgrades. So the useful question is not which upgrade is best overall, but which one gets you to the next place you want to reach.

The six confirmed types

The Community Update #14 FAQ names cargo capacity, handling, paint, boosters, sticky cargo and a snorkel. MythicOwl has not published costs, levels or exact numbers, and we have not played enough to measure them, so this page does not invent any.

What to buy first

Because there is no fixed order, start with the problem you have most. If boxes keep flying off on bumpy roads, sticky cargo or handling will save more time than anything else. If you keep making repeat trips, cargo capacity cuts those down. If a region is blocked by water, the snorkel is the likely answer. Paint is cosmetic, so leave it until you have spare money.

Paying for upgrades

Upgrades use money from deliveries plus materials made from scrap. Scrap comes from abandoned machinery and recyclables, and Red’s Scrapyard turns it into upgrade materials. See our scrap and money guide for how those two currencies work together.

One curious upgrade

The FAQ says you cannot run over sheep or boars, but one specific upgrade lets you almost do it. The developer did not name it.

Matching upgrades to regions

The developer lists the regions as towns, forest, marshes and wetlands and swamps, tunnels and caves, the scrapyard, and dusty hills. Each one stresses the truck differently, and that is the most practical way to think about upgrades. Town routes are short and forgiving, so they are where you earn early money. Forest roads and dusty hills are bumpy, which is where handling and sticky cargo pay off, because they keep loads in the bed. Marshes, wetlands and swamps are the obvious place for the snorkel. Tunnels and caves are tight, so a careless load is more likely to clip a wall.

We have not confirmed exactly which upgrade gates which region, and MythicOwl has not published that list. Use the notebook, which acts as your map and objective tracker, to see what is blocked, then pick the upgrade that addresses it.

Upgrades and the Ghost Truck

The Ghost Truck is a hazard you evade, not a boss. Boosters are the upgrade most clearly suited to getting away from it. If you do get hit, the run does not restart and you can pick up dropped cargo, so the real cost of a hit is time. Sticky cargo reduces how much falls out in the first place.

Spending order for a first playthrough

Since order is free, a sensible default is to fix the problem you notice most. Players who keep losing loads should buy sticky cargo or handling first. Players who find deliveries slow should look at cargo capacity, which cuts repeat trips. Players blocked by water should save for the snorkel. Leave paint until last, because the developer only describes it as cosmetic.

What we are still checking

Upgrade costs, the number of levels per upgrade, and the effect sizes are not published. We have no first-hand measurements, so this page does not list numbers. When MythicOwl or a reliable source documents them, we will add a cost table here with a link to the source.

Common questions

FAQ

Is there a required upgrade order?

No. The developer says upgrades can be bought in any order.

What does the snorkel do?

The FAQ lists it as an upgrade but does not describe it in detail. A snorkel normally lets a vehicle drive through deeper water, which fits the marsh and swamp regions, but treat that as our reading rather than a confirmed effect.
